A virus is mаde up оf а cоre оf genetic mаterial, either DNA or RNA, surrounded by a protective coat made up of protein. They are unique because they are only able to multiply inside the cells of other living things. The cell they multiply in is called the host cell. They do not have the machinery to copy their DNA and reproduce, they use the machinery of the host cell for that as shown in the picture below. Because of this, viruses are not considered living organisms. From what you know about the properties shared by all living things, name two that are not found in viruses.

Fаmily Cаse Study fоr Applicаtiоn Yоu work for a community mental health agency where you primarily treat adolescents. Your work includes family therapy. Alanna, a sixteen-year-old, white, gender queer person presents to your office. Alanna was assigned female at birth and uses the pronouns she/her/they. The client was referred to your office after she used her mother's van without permission and drove into a tree causing significant damage to the vehicle. This was the second such incident in the past month as she wrecked her father's truck in a similar fashion. Both times Alanna was under the influence of some intoxicant.  During the intake, you learn that Alanna's mother, Gwen, has been confined to a wheelchair since a motor vehicle accident when she was 20 years old. Gwen has had difficulty maintaining a job due to her physical limitations. She has no feeling in her legs, which she has broken in falls on multiple occasions. Gwen cares for the home and produces art as her main hobby. Her accessible van gave her the ability to visit with friends and run errands. It will be in the shop for the next two weeks. Gwen is angry with Alanna but also afraid that she may hurt herself while driving under the influence. You further learn that Alanna's father, Rocky, has a history of substance abuse. His father, with whom he had a difficult relationship, recently passed away. Rocky is the least accomplished of his father's three sons and was the object of his father's ridicule. The money from Gwen's accident settlement had recently run out and the family was living close to the poverty line but Rocky inherited about 8 years salary when his father died. He has relapsed on alcohol and cocaine and has become enraged on several recent occasions. Alanna has an 8 year-old brother, Barry, with a mild intellectual developmental disorder. His needs are experiences as stressful for Gwen and Rocky. Alanna feels that Barry's needs divert her parents from providing the attention she needs. During the interview, Alanna shares that she has been using her parents' vehicles to meet men she meets on the internet to trade oral sex for drugs. This has angered her girlfriend and resulted in tension in her primary relationship. The client shares that she feels justified borrowing her parents vehicles because, when her grandfather died, he left her uncle a new vehicle and his uncle's vehicle was supposed to pass to her but her father has not allowed her to drive it. Additionally, Alanna revels that at a recent meeting with a man she was sexually assaulted. She described her primary emotion as rage related to the sexual assault and her family situation, especially her poor relationship with her father.
