In this study, septal neurons were prepared from the septal nucleus of embryonic (day 16-17) rat brain and randomly assigned to one of two groups: 1) treated with 10 μM oligomeric Aβ(1-42) peptide to induce cell death or; 2) co-cultured with genetically modified human neural progenitor cells (hNPCs) secreting BDNF, IGF-1 and GDNF prior to treatment with 10 μM oligomeric Aβ(1-42) peptide.
