PUBLIC Questiоn 2: Cоmpаre аnd Cоntrаst – Macromolecules Give an in-depth explanation written in paragraph form for the following questions. Each answer should be at least 3-5 sentences in length and answer all parts of the question completely. Several macromolecules are necessary for life as we know it (proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids). It is important to not only understand the basic elemental composition of these macromolecules but also the complex three dimensional structures they adopt to carry out their functions.  2A. Compare and contrast the atomic components needed to build proteins and carbohydrates. A complete answer will identify the ELEMENTS present in both these macromolecules AND which elements (if any) are ONLY present in proteins OR carbohydrates. Relate the STRUCTURES of proteins to the specific FUNCTION of this macromolecule in a cell. Your discussion should include the specific monomers that are brought together to form the polymer and what chemical reaction, if any, is needed to make the primary structure of this macromolecule. Also describe the secondary and tertiary structures these macromolecules can form, including their relevant molecular interactions. Include at least TWO specific examples of proteins relevant to your discussion. (5 pts) Copyright 2022 by Edmonds College Department of Biology. All rights reserved. PUBLIC Questiоn 1: Anаlyzing Cоncepts аnd Predicting Outcоmes – Biology Give аn in-depth explanation written in paragraph form for the following questions. Each answer should be at least 3-5 sentences in length and answer all parts of the question completely. A thousand years in the future, astronauts from Earth have landed on a planet in a neighboring solar system to investigate recently detected signs of life.  The atmosphere on Planet 9 is very similar to earth - 70% nitrogen, 26% oxygen, and less than 4% carbon dioxide.  The astronaut’s ship landed on the edge of a shallow body of water. The water contains much higher levels of sulfur and ammonia than would usually be present in water from Earth. Initial observations failed to detect large, multicellular organisms, but samples of the water show the following under the microscope: 1A. Plan an experiment to determine whether the objects in the image are able to use energy. Include a clear statement of your hypothesis and EXPLAIN how you will test it. Will your experiment prove these objects are alive? Why or why not? (5pts) Copyright 2022 by Edmonds College Department of Biology. All rights reserved. Online sharing or distribution is prohibited.
