The free online platform offers peer support and self-support options. Peer support allows users to connect with someone that has experienced similar mild mental health difficulties. The self-support option is a hub of resources created with the aim to bring scientific knowledge on mental health problems to the public. Mind Support is free to all users and relies on volunteer work and donations. This is how the program is described in their website: Aim Mind Support aims to take a preventative approach to the mental health crisis by supporting people with mild mental health difficulties and offering them evidence-based tools to build resilience. This will improve your mental health and offer you a toolbox of coping mechanisms. We also aim to reduce mental health stigma by normalising conversations regarding mild mental health difficulties. The self-support resources aim to educate the lay public regarding scientific knowledge on mental health problems. Mind Support does not aim to replace therapy or professional mental health services, instead it is meant for mild cases and/or an addition to therapy. Streams of support There are two streams of support provided by this program, namely Peer Support and Self Support Peer support The “Peer Support” section aims to connect people that have experienced similar mental health difficulties and to promote dialogue regarding mental health problems. Subsequently you answer a short interactive questionnaire that allows us to connect you with someone that has experienced similar difficulties. You are then able to anonymously chat in an integrated chat system. Self-support The "Self-Support" resources aims to improve user’s knowledge regarding mental health through options such as evidence-based challenges, videos and reading material. In this way, the self-support section has 3 categories. The knowledge section offers theoretical information regarding mental health problems. The practice section facilitates the process of putting this theoretical knowledge into practice using games, videos and challenges. The recommendations section gives users a space to help others by recommendation, books, podcasts, movies or therapists. Mind Support aims to make mental health research not only more tangible to the general public that it is relevant to but also more usable to everyone. If you are struggling with stress, chronic pain, grief, sleeping, frustration, lack of purpose, trouble with intimacy and many, many other topics you can use Mind Support to receive support! You would be surprised how many people might have struggled with the same or similar issues.
