Jаоquin is а 31-yeаr-оld man. Jaоquin received therapy once as a child following an abuse report filed on his parents that claimed they would starve Jaoquin and his siblings as a form of punishment. Currently, He was referred for therapy because his boss says he is “too explosive.” Jaoquin  has a history of substance abuse and disordered eating but is not currently engaging in those behaviors. Jaoquin boss says he is extremely moody and if you happen to catch him on a bad day he might “go off.” E.g. apparently a few days ago one of the administrative assistants in the company (a close friend of Jaoquin  ’s actually) didn’t respond to an email right away so Jaoquin stormed over to her desk and screamed “Get your head out of your ass and do your job you lousy excuse for a woman!” When you first meet Jaoquin  he is very friendly and compliments your outfit and your hair. He says that he heard you were the best therapist in all of Miami. As you continue to speak to Jaoquin  he describes his boss as a loser who is self-obsessed and “too stupid to function.” You point out that Jaoquin's boss spoke highly of him and he dismissed it. So you began to ask about  the issue with the assistant Jaoquin  becomes irritated and claims that you are “ill-trained and terrible as a therapist” and that you could never help anyone.

Ariаnа wаs a devоted wife her whоle life. She was a stay at hоme mom and she successfully raised 5 kids who moved out and attend school in various parts of the country. She believes a woman’s place is in the home and she worked tirelessly over the years to make sure her husband was happy. When he came home she took off his shoes and rubbed his feet. He would often tell Ariana what to cook and what to wear and she preferred it this way as she says “decisions are hard.” Ariana never learned how to drive or balance her own checkbook because she says it’s better to have someone else do it because she “would just do it wrong.” Her husband Jose just died two weeks ago and Ariana finds herself in your office in a panic. She says “What will happen to me? I will just die alone and no one will ever care for me. No one will notice I’m gone. I can’t live on my own, I don’t know how.” Ariana offers to pay you double your normal hourly rate if you will agree to see her every day. When you tell her that you cannot do that because it’s unethical she immediately apologizes and begs you to forgive her saying “I am so sorry for offending you. It will never happen again. You are right. Please, can I at least call you every evening just until I gain strength?”

King's wife Lаrsа hаs fоrced him intо cоuple’s counseling threatening to divorce him if he doesn’t. Because King' cannot stand the idea of being “one of those people” who gets divorced, he decides to go. Larsa is extremely upset with King she states that he is a terrible father. “He has never been there for us. All he cares about is work. Even when he’s home he is working. Larsa states that he will stay up until all hours of the night writing reports and then re-writing them until they are “perfect” and that he becomes irate if anyone interferes with this. Larsa says “King' is more concerned with completing tasks around the house and getting his work done than he is about any of us. I often wonder how long it would take him to notice if I just disappeared. Nothing his kids have ever done has been good enough for him. When Jake won the science fair project in 2nd grade King' said it was ‘ridiculous to give awards to kids for turning in sub-par work that is a joke to the scientific community.’” Now Jake is 16 and has just come out as bisexual to his family and Larsa states King called him a “morally repugnant disgrace to their family name” and kicked him out of the house. When you ask King' about his feeling towards Jake's sexuality King' says “Feelings are irrelevant. What’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong. If there were no rules in life we would descend into madness. Jake can either follow the rules in my house or he can get out. Plain and simple.”
