CASE SCENARIOA UAA Dentаl Hygiene prоgrаm plаns tо study the decay rates оf retired patients in Alaska. The study was designed to collect surveys and perform a Basic Screening Survey (BSS) by faculty in the Fall of 2023. This screening came with a manual, examiner training videos, and sample screening forms. To access caries rates, a limited examination with mirror, explorer, adequate light, and bitewing radiographs will be used. 105 patients completed the study and screening. Survey data reported that 28% of patients at the UAA Dental Clinic self-reported active carious lesions. Clinic data found that the percentage of 60- 65-year-olds with untreated decay was 34.5%, and that of 65- 70-year-olds with untreated decay was 38.2%.
