Helen is а 71-yeаr-оld white femаle. A few mоnths agо, Helen's older sister Charlotte fell and broke her hip and was diagnosed with osteoporosis. Seeing what her sister has gone through, Helen has started to worry about her own bone health.  Helen weighs 98 pounds. Although she swears she used to be 5 feet 2 inches, her most recent stature measurement at the doctor's office showed she is currently 5 feet, 1 inch. Helen is a widow, and she has no children. She worked for more than 40 years at her local bank and retired at age 65. She currently lives alone in a retirement community, but her house is just a few blocks away from her sister's house, so she spends time with her sister almost daily. She usually drives her golf cart to and from Charlotte's house. She would walk to Charlotte's house, but her knees often ache due to arthritis, so she prefers to drive. In fact, she used to walk several miles every day for exercise, but knee pain caused her to change her exercise routine. Nowadays, her exercise is limited to a water aerobics class at the fitness center in her retirement community for 45 minutes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Other than the water aerobics class, her daily activities consist of chores around the house, such as cooking and cleaning. Her leisure time is usually spent in sedentary activities, such as reading or watching TV. Helen's blood pressure, blood lipids, and blood sugar have always been within a healthy range. However, she has GERD, so she takes omeprazole (an acid-reducing medication) every day. She does not take any other medications or dietary supplements. Helen has never used tobacco. She drinks alcohol infrequently - only a glass or two of wine at social gatherings.  Residents of Helen's retirement community have the benefit of meeting with a registered dietitian who visits the fitness center once a month, so Helen decided to schedule a consultation to talk about her bone health concerns. At the visit, the dietitian asked Helen about her recent dietary intake. Helen reported consuming the following foods and beverages: 6:30 AM Coffee, regular, 1 cup Wheat bread, toasted, 1 slice Orange marmalade, 1 Tbsp 9:30 AM Triscuit crackers, 6 each Cheddar cheese, 1 slice Water, 8 fl oz 12:00 PM Chicken noodle soup, 1 cup Wheat bread, toasted Butter, 1 tsp Grapes, 1 cup Coffee, regular, 1 cup 4:30 PM Chicken breast, roasted, 2 oz Broccoli, steamed, 1/2 cup Brown rice, cooked, 1 cup Butter, 1 tsp Salt, 1/8 tsp Iced tea, artificially sweetened, 1.5 cups 8:00 PM Raspberry sorbet, 1 cup 9:30 PM Water, 1/2 cup   Examine the Bar Graph Report, which compares Helen's nutrient intake to her nutrient requirements.  On the Bar Graph Report, the Value column shows Helen's intake of nutrients on this day. The DRI Goal column shows the age-appropriate RDA or AI for most nutrients. For saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium, however, the DRI goal is a limit.
