He was hypoxic on admission with a history of COPD, and he was given supplemental oxygen. The patient did admit to a past history of smoking 2 PPD for 20 years. During his admission, he was coughing up sputum and a chest x-ray showed a mild increase in interstitial markings. Therefore, the patient was treated with antibiotics for acute bronchitis, and this provided good results. Gradually, the foot ulcer healed; however, the hypoxia persisted. Therefore, the patient's oxygen therapy was increased, and this was helpful. He was discharged home.
