Cоmpаre аnd cоntrаst Sоuth Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia on ONE of the following:  Political characteristics Economic characteristics   Topic Sentence(s)/Thesis: 2 points One fact for each region that relates to the thesis: 2 points each, 6 points total  Grammar/Spelling: 1 point  Your essay should use facts discussed in class or Canvas assignments.  If your essay uses several outside facts, it will seem as though someone, not familiar with our class, like AI, wrote it.  Hints:  This thesis should be more than "South Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia have many differences and similarities when it comes to politics."  Your thesis should actually say something substantive about the fact that will support your argument.   For example, if I were to write on the politics comparing Canada and the US with Latin America, I would say:  "Regions in the Americas are similar in their political history because they were all colonized by European powers.  However, the regions of Canada/US and Latin America were colonized by different European powers, which has led to many differences in their political history."  Then, I would give facts about which countries colonized which places/when they were colonized/and how and when they won their independence. I would conclude by saying which regions are more or less democratic today.

Cоmpаre аnd cоntrаst Sоuth Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia on ONE of the following:  Geographic characteristics Social characteristics   Topic Sentence(s)/Thesis: 2 points One fact for each region that relates to the thesis: 2 points each, 6 points total  Grammar/Spelling: 1 point  Your essay should use facts discussed in class or Canvas assignments.  If your essay uses several outside facts, it will seem as though someone, not familiar with our class, like AI, wrote it.  Hints:  This thesis should be more than "South Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia have many differences and similarities when it comes to their societies."  Your thesis should actually say something substantive about the fact that will support your argument.   For example, if I were to write on comparing Canada and the US with Latin America societies, I would say:  "Regions in the Americas are different culturally because they were colonized by different European powers."  Then, I would give facts about how Spain and Portugal colonized Latin America, talk about why it is called "Latin America," which is about languages, and I'd discuss how LA is mostly Catholic.  I'd then talk about how the US and Canada are mostly English speaking because they were mostly colonized by England.  Then, I'd talk about how they are a mix of Protestant and Catholic, how the Protestant part came from England. I'd close by talking about how Canada and the US are more diverse because they've welcomed (some period more than others) immigrants from across the world.
