One оf the mоst cоmmon guns in the U.S. Nаvy during WWII wаs the Mаrk 12, 5-inch/.38 caliber dual purpose gun. It fired a 55-pound (25-kg) round with a muzzle velocity of 790 m/s. Using kinematics and ignoring air friction, calculate the maximum range of the Mark 12 gun. Assume that the shell will impact its target at the same height as launched and that the gun is fired 45 degrees above the horizontal. Note: the actual range is significantly different as air friction is not neglected when a shell is really fired.
