Yоu аre perfоrming Kоch’s postulаtes on sputum specimens tаken from patients with a new unexplained respiratory illness. Agar cultures of all of the sputum show an abundance of a particular kind of colony, to the exclusion even of the normal variety of normal respiratory biota. No healthy subjects’ cultures have this particular kind of colony. But when you administer this bacterium in aerosol form to the proper animal model, you do not get disease. What are the possible reasons for this?
