Pаrt 2The pаtient is а 21-year-оld male with a psychоsоcial history that includes physical and mental abuse by his stepfather as a child. He has struggled with severe mood swings and outbursts of extreme anger around others since he was 10 years old. The patient is a heavy alcohol drinker and uses alcohol to help cope with his anger and mood swings. The patient’s family has seen an escalation in his symptoms since his girlfriend broke up with him 1 week ago, and he has been out of control and unpredictable. The patient reports feeling very down at times, and other times he experiences mania symptoms where he parties with his friends and drinks all night. The patient’s family members state that they are also afraid of him when he gets mad, and they do not know what he might do. Today, after an argument with his stepfather, the patient pulled out a gun in the living room and threatened to harm anyone who got close to him. The police were called, and the patient was admitted to an inpatient psychiatric hospital for treatment of his anger issues. After 45 minutes, the patient is taken to his room in the psychiatric hospital, and his nurse finishes his admission by asking more questions about what has been happening at home. The patient states, “I feel tense and edgy all of the time. My girlfriend broke up with me last week because she is scared of me and says that she cannot handle my anger. I get so mad sometimes that I just do not know what will happen, and I cannot seem to control myself.” The nurse discusses the healthcare provider’s orders with the patient related to anger management interventions and ways to keep the patient and staff safe. The nurse states, “We are here to help you learn better techniques to manage your feelings of anger.”The nurse takes the patient to the dining room for lunch. The patient becomes upset because the patient in front of him took the last burger and he is stuck eating a hotdog that he does not like very well. He throws his food tray at the person in front of him and starts yelling at him about taking the last burger when he wanted it. The person starts to walk away, and the patient follows him. The security guard in the dining room notices the commotion and removes the patient from the dining room. The patient tries to pull away from the security guard and return to the dining room to “give that guy a piece of me and show him that I mean business.” The patient continues to show symptoms of aggression when he returns to his room, and he is struggling to calm down. The nurse notes the patient is in his room clenching his fists, mumbling to himself, and punching the walls. The nurse prioritizes the patient’s needs based on the new assessment information and the patient’s behaviors.Which patient need will the nurse address in his plan of care? Select all that apply.
