"Englishes" аnd The Impоrtаnce оf Gоod Writing After reаding pages HB-69 through HB-77, address the following for questions/prompts in at least four short but formal paragraphs comprising at least one page and no more than two pages.  This is a graded and proctored assignment and should be completed on your first Wednesday of this hybrid course.  Your response is due no later than 11:59 pm on Wednesday, August 20th.  Get yourself accustomed to meeting these Wednesday deadlines and using Honorlock proctoring. PROMPT:  The section titled "Englishes" covers several forms of the language, including formal, informal, colloquial, jargon, etc. (Address all of the following in your written response.) Of those main sections of the passage, which did you find most relevant to your own life?  Why? Have you experienced a situation in which you were misunderstood based on your use of a form of English, like slang or regional use?  Explain with detail. Is there any jargon (see section L-11c on page HB-72) you use regularly that you have had to explain to someone?   For instance, just yesterday, a student told me that I used a sportsball (yes, this is what I call ALL sports!) reference when I said I might need "to check" someone.  This was news to me! What is the importance of clear, formal writing in your life?  If it's not important now, can you see a time in the future in which it will be important? Use proper Standard English grammar and mechanics; this writing sample is meant to show me where you are as a writer NOW, before my instruction.
