Week 8: Genetic Technоlоgy & Week 9: Pоpulаtion genetics The humаn b-globin gene hаs two alleles, HS and HA. Individuals that are homozygous for HS have sickle-cell anemia and a lower fitness. Individuals that are heterozygotes (HSHA) do not show sickle-cell symptoms and have a resistance to malaria. Individuals that are homozygous for HA have the highest fitness but are susceptible to malaria. You are in a research group developing the treatment for malaria with CRISPR technique. And you want to start with the idea about HS and HA allele. Use the information and information we covered in the class, choose the design/thoughts you think are correct (could be more than one choices). Note: there are ethical issues editing human genome. All the proposed design and thoughts are in the pilot staging using mammalian cell lines (human cell lines in our case) that are commercially available.
