Yоur pаtient Jаne hаs symptоms оf acute manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder. She is given a short course of risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic. Risperidone is metabolized by CYP2D6. The metabolites of risperidone has no pharmacological effect. Very quickly after she starts taking risperidone, your patient experiences profound sedation, which is resolved when the risperidone is discontinued.
