At the end оf yоur 12-hоur shift (0700-1900), you need to cаlculаte the intаke and output (I&O) for your patient. During your shift, your patient tolerated a regular diet with 6 oz of juice at breakfast, 7 oz of beef broth at mid-morning, and 8 oz of tea at noon. Shortly after lunch the patient became nauseated and vomited a pint of emesis. At 1600 the patient was less nauseated and took 6 oz of ginger ale without further emesis. The UAP reported to you that the patient ambulated to the bathroom with assist four times, once at 0830 and voided 500 mL, once at 1130 and voided 450 mL, once at 1450 and voided 350 mL, and again at 1705 and voided 400 mL. Normal saline was infusing  IV at 77 ml/hr from 0700-1600. Calculate this patient's I&O. All I&O should be calculated in milliliters only. Once you have calculated the I&O, determine if the patient's fluid status was positive or negative.  Total intake: [intake].  Total output: [output].  Is the I&O positive or negative for your 12-hour shift? [negative] By how much? [difference]
