Essаy (4–5 pаrаgraphs minimum, 20 pоints) Chооse one of the following to answer. If you answer more than one, only the first response will be graded. Be sure to use examples from the text to support your argument. Using specific examples, analyze Everyman as an allegory of psychomachia. In your discussion, explain how this is a specifically Catholic blueprint for salvation. What are the stages of the soul's journey and the turning points in that journey? Discuss the arrival of the Renaissance in England. You should include the following in your analysis: the political and economic situation in the late Middle Ages, feudalism, the Wars of the Roses, and humanism. Explain the introduction of and shift to Protestantism in Renaissance England. Be sure to discuss the role of the monarchy in creating the Church of England, the influence of Luther's Reformation, and how this change affected everyday life in England. Analyze The Faerie Queene in the context of one of its allegorical modes: moral, historical, or religious. Be sure to define allegory in general and explain the mode that you choose. Compare Shakespeare's sonnet sequence to one of the other sequences we studied: Spenser, Sidney, or Wroth. Consider in your analysis the argument of the sequences, the imagery used, and the emotional or intellectual progression of the different speakers. How is Shakespeare's work similar or different? In the case of Wroth, is there a gendered difference between the speakers? Using the sonnet sequences of either Shakespeare, Spenser, Sidney, or Wroth, formulate a coherent view of love and relationships according to the speaker. Consider a thorough definition of love in the poems; whether they present love as sincere, artificial, or both; and whether it is a worthy thing to pursue.
