Instructiоns: This essаy is set up аs three sepаrate quiz questiоns. If yоu are revising essay #1, choose Revise Essay 1, and so on.  Review the essay prompt and write your essay in the text field provided. This essay is set up as an Honorlock quiz. If you are not familiar with Honorlock, it is a proctoring tool that monitors students to promote academic integrity. To avoid being flagged by Honorlock, carefully read the REQUIRED Honorlock Warnings and Ms. Bryant's Honorlock Guidelines. Then, simply type your essay in the text field, proofread your work, and submit! FORMATTING NOTE: To indent paragraphs, simply hit the space bar five times. Obviously, this format is not set up to enable APA Formatting, but I still need to see where each paragraph begins, so hit the tab key (or five spaces using the space bar) at the beginning of each paragraph to indent. The same goes (in reverse) for using Hanging Indent for the bibliographic citations. You cannot create a separate title page, so you do not need one.  Just space your work neatly, in an organized manner.  Overview   This assignment has two parts, both designed to help you prepare for your final Argumentative Research Essay by building a strong foundation of credible sources and focusing your inquiry through well-developed research questions. PART 1: Annotated Bibliography (5 Sources in APA Style) Assignment Part 1 Requirements: Use the topic I selected for you from your previous essay. Compile a 5-source annotated bibliography, formatted according to APA style. At least 3 sources must be scholarly (peer-reviewed journal articles or scholarly books published by a university press). The other 2 sources may be reputable popular or journalistic sources, such as those from government agencies or well-established newspapers/magazines (e.g., The New York Times, NPR, Pew Research Center, CDC, Brookings Institution, etc.).      Each Annotation Must Include: Length: 225–300 words per entry (not including the APA citation) Two Paragraphs: Summary Paragraph: A clear, objective summary of the source’s main argument or purpose. What is the author’s thesis? What evidence or reasoning does the author provide? What are the key findings or conclusions? Analysis and Evaluation Paragraph: Your assessment of the source's credibility, relevance, and usefulness for your research. Use criteria like those in the CRAAP model (Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, Purpose). How well does this source help you understand your topic? How might it support or complicate an argument Label the two parts of the assignment clearly using level 1 APA headings: Part 1: Annotated Bibliography and Part 2: Research Questions. Use APA citation format for each source at the top of the entry. Bibliographic citaions should be alphabetized by the first word in each citation (usually the author’s last name). See the model below for formatting and indenting of citations/annotations. SAMPLE CITATION/ ANNOTATION Provide a proper APA bibliographic citation for each source. To use "hanging indent," hit the space bar five times for the second and subsequent lines of each citation.  Summary Paragraph: The first paragraph of each annotation should identify the work’s thesis and purpose Then, briefly and accurately summarize the work’s main ideas and key points. Evaluation Paragraph Identify the credibility of the publication (not the database!). Judge the work (accuracy, strengths, limitations, etc.). Discuss specifically how the work could contribute to or function in your project. Part 1: Annotated Bibliography About [Topic Here] Resk, D. (2010). Trans fat bans and human freedom. American Journal of Bioethics, 10(3), 27-32. Retrieved from Academic Search Premier In this scholarly article, David Resnik argued that bans on unhealthy foods set a dangerous precedent to threaten our personal freedom. He claimed that researchers do not have enough evidence to know whether banning trans fats will save lives or money, but what is certain is such bans restrict dietary choices. Resnik explained why most Americans oppose food restrictions, noting our multiethnic heritage and regional tradition, as well as our desire for the freedom to choose our own food, even food with long-term health risks. The author acknowledged that few people would probably miss eating trans fats if they were banned entirely, but he fears that such bans would be a slippery slope and could lead to further restrictions on products such as red meat and sugary sodas, which are also known to have harmful effects.  American Journal of Bioethics is a respected peer-reviewed journal. Resnik is a bioethicist who presents a well-reasoned argument, but insisting that all proposed food restrictions will do more harm than good represents an overstated claim. This article offers insight into why many Americans see government legislation as unreasonable and provides counterarguments to other sources that claim it would be unreasonable not to enact legislation to protect and advance public health. He also provides other ways the government can respond to the problem without outright banning trans fats. Therefore, I can easily use this source in my research paper when I explain the multiple sides of the issue. PART 2: Research Questions (3 Paragraphs) A Research Question is an open-ended, focused question that guides the researcher’s inquiry into a complex issue. A good research question cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. Instead, it requires exploration, analytical engagement and investigation. It relies on curiosity, thoughtful inquiry that allows for nuance. NOTE: Research questions often include words such as “how” “why,” “what is the significance of,” “to what extent,” or other similarly analytical phrasing. Assignment Part 2 Requirements: APA Formatting: Maintain the formatting from the Annotated Bibliography, but eliminate the hanging indent. Now you will use first-line indent. (Indent the first line of each paragraph ½ inch from the one-inch left-hand margin. All other lines of text must be flush with the one-inch margin.) Provide a level 1 heading where you begin part 2 that reads Part 2: Research Questions. As always, the level 1 heading should be centered and in bold font.       Body Paragraphs (Three): Write three paragraphs centered on three well-developed research questions related to your topic. The topic sentence should introduce the question. The rest of the paragraph should develop its significance to the controversy (approx. 150–200 words). Each Paragraph Should Include the following: A clear, open-ended research question A thorough explanation of why answering this question is essential to understanding or making an argument about your issue. A short research plan: How and where will you go to find an answer? What types of sources will you look for? What can you do if you do not find a good answer? A breakdown of the key sub-questions or components within your main question. What narrower bits of information would make you feel that you have fully explored this issue?
