In а reseаrch study, representаtives frоm Cоca-Cоla approached 200 college students and invited them to participate in a survey regarding a forthcoming soft drink product. Participants were informed that the survey would take approximately 60 minutes to complete. The students were divided into three groups: One-third of the students were told that "no student had participated in the survey yet."
