Yоur lоcаl CVS (in yоur neighborhood) hаs been doing greаt business since it open last year. However, Walgreens is open in the same shopping center later this month. CVS can't stop Walgreens from opening but they need to adapt to their new competition. This is an example of ___________________________________________ .

Stоry Prоblem: Ice quаlity hаs becоme а growing concern in a mid-sized city as hockey participation has increased and rink schedules have tightened, especially during tournament weekends. City officials are considering whether to replace their existing propane (gas) ice resurfacers with newer electric models, but they want local evidence before making a major purchase and asked me and my colleagues to help. The city operates five ice sheets across three municipal facilities and provided us with a complete roster of all five sheets. Because the city currently has three gas-powered machines and only two electric machines, we decided to evaluate a balanced comparison by selecting four of the five ice sheets for the study: two sheets serviced by gas machines and two sheets serviced by electric machines. Over a 10-week period (late February through early May), trained rink supervisors recorded ice quality using the same rating form at each sheet immediately after resurfacing and again after two hours of play, including ratings of smoothness, rutting, and puck glide consistency. During the study window, the electric-machine sheets were located at the city’s two highest-demand facilities: they hosted six weekend tournaments, including three spring tournaments in April, and logged an average of 11–13 hours of scheduled ice time per day. In contrast, the gas-machine sheets were located at facilities with lighter scheduling, hosting one tournament total during the study period and averaging 7–9 hours of scheduled ice time per day. We also noted that, as spring progressed, the electric-machine facilities reported more frequent “soft ice” complaints during busy afternoons, while the gas-machine facilities rarely reported such issues. At the end of the study, we compared average post-play ice quality ratings across the four sheets and found that the gas-machine sheets had consistently higher ice quality ratings than the electric-machine sheets. City officials concluded that gas resurfacers appear to produce better ice quality and recommended delaying any transition to electric machines.
