Questions

YOU HAVE TWO CHOICES FOR THIS CLASS ASSIGNMENT - either оptiоn is а vаlid chоice аnd they are both worth the exact same number of points.OPTION 1: Choose a famous American (OR YOURSELF) who has said and/or done things that are clearly prejudiced (racist, sexist, ageist, etc. - anything that shows they are making a conservation error and engaging in collective liability) and learn enough about that person's life to try to determine where those prejudices came from. Your job is to try to figure out what made that person have those prejudices. (Try to find social experiences that may have influenced them, agents of socialization in their lives with similar patterns of thought & behavior, etc.) Writing about yourself does not require research but might be emotionally difficult. Writing about a stranger is emotionally easier but requires you to do research. The choice is yours. OPTION 2: Choose one topic that we covered this semester (Socialization, Self & Identity, Social Class, Social Mobility, Cultural Capital, Listening, Dramaturgy, or Stereotypes) that you believe is the most important and write an essay that answers the following questions:1. Why do you think it is the most important of the 8 general topics?  Give me at least a paragraph or two really explaining why you chose this one topic to write about and why you believe it is the most important of the semester. This can be grand and sweeping like "It has the power to save the world!" or personal like "I thought it was the most interesting and helpful to me because I had no idea it even existed" or anything in between. I just want a valid reason for why you chose that specific topic to write about. Be specific and give a detailed answer.2. What specific aspect of that topic was the most important idea within that unit? It can be a term or concept within that unit, or just something very specific that struck you as "the" important detail. 3. Tell me a specific story from your own life, an actual event that you saw or read about or experienced, that relates to that specific topic. This should be a detailed story and take at least a couple paragraphs. 4. Explain to me how your story relates to the topic. (It might seem obvious, but I still need you to explicitly tell me - I can only grade you on what you write, not what I think you mean!) Is it a situation that really illustrates the topic? Or one that could have gone very differently if you knew then what you know now about it? Or even one where you applied what you'd learned in this class and it made a big difference? Again, be specific.
