Metaphor of the Body: Analyze how at least two poems use the human body to explore abstract concepts like emotional pain, desire, comfort or fear. Symbolism and Theme: Identify a major theme in two or more poems and analyze how specific symbols, metaphors, or similes are used to develop that theme. Poems you might consider include: “Divorce,” “The Lake Isle of Innisfree,” and “Harlem”. Attitude/Tone Analysis: Analyze how the poet’s choice of language and imagery reveals their attitude toward a specific subject (e.g., mortality, nature, or a specific memory) in at least two poems from our reading list (Assignments 4 and 5).
