The Americаn Cаncer Sоciety wаs lооking into the relationship between infection with H. pylori bacteria, which causes stomach ulcers and stomach cancer. Researchers selected 300 individuals between the ages of 50 and 65 who had stomach cancer, and 310 individuals between the ages of 50 and 65 who did not have stomach cancer, to participate in a study. The participants were then asked whether they had a history of H. pylori infection in the 5 years before they were diagnosed with stomach cancer. Of the those with stomach cancer, 135 reported a history of H. pylori infection. Of those without stomach cancer, 255 reported that they did not have a history of H. pylori infection.
