You may choose to write about one or any combination of the following topics, but please note that your essay does not have to be specific to our class (it can be a reflection of other classes, etc.):  Lessons learned about what is required to be a successful college student Most important concepts, skills, etc. you have learned How you have changed as a writer, reader, and/or student How your writing process or approach to writing assignments has changed Specific challenges you faced and overcame How you reacted to failure, setbacks, and/or successes How you have specifically demonstrated a growth mindset   Your reflection essay must include the following things:  Proper MLA format (as best as you can do using the text entry box; I understand that this is not a Microsoft Word document) Proper five paragraph essay structure (introduction w/ thesis at the end, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion) Proper paragraph structure (topic sentence, supporting details/examples, and concluding/transition sentence) Personal examples (you can use first person pronouns since you will be talking about your own experience) Your reflection essay must NOT include the following things:  Second person voice (you/your) Contractions Slang Major grammatical errors (fragments, comma splices, run-ons, subject-verb agreement errors, and misuses of semicolon) Other grammar or spelling errors You will be graded according to the following criteria:  Essay is set up in MLA format and includes a header, heading, title, proper indentation, appropriate font and size, and is double-spaced. The essay is free from second person voice, contractions, and slang. Essay is properly structured with five paragraphs: an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. Essay includes a strong, clearly worded thesis statement at the end of the introduction paragraph that states the author’s argument. Paragraphs begin with a strong topic sentence that clearly relates back to the thesis, and the paragraphs include concrete supporting details and examples that clearly support the topic sentence. Each paragraph has a proper concluding sentence. The essay is free from grammatical errors and spelling errors. Please be aware that your essay will be run through a separate Turnitin dropbox to ensure that no plagiarism or AI usage has occurred. You are not responsible for doing this, so just proofread and submit your essay when you are done.
