The prairie preserve is two sections in size, a rectangle 2 miles long and a mile wide. On all borders of the preserve are gravel roads with ditches, and these ditches are filled with a monoculture of reed canarygrass. Reed canarygrass is known to be invasive in sedge meadows and fens. At present there are a few patches of reed canarygrass within the prairie, but mostly it is just in the ditches. You can only afford to put 30 people hours a year into controlling this invasion.
