Four weeks ago, Mathew was transferred from an acute care hospital to a rehabilitation facility for treatment. He expressed that he doesn’t think he will have any extra time, patience or attention to help Mathew. However, he is concerned that the coffee shop will continue to lose money if Mathew does not return to work soon, and they will not be able to pay their rent. · Mathew has not spoken to his immediate family since he moved in with Scott. He has not announced his gay relationship to his family. · Mathew does not have extended health or disability benefits to subsidize his income and health care services. · Mathew continues to experience mild lower-extremity weakness and poor standing tolerance. His balance is mildly impaired. · Mathew described that he enjoyed reading before his accident. However, he reports that since the accident he has difficulty concentrating when reading books. · Mathew said he would like to be able to get back on his bicycle again soon. He uses his bicycle as both a form of exercise and mode of transportation. Mathew will be discharged home in two weeks. The rehabilitation facility offers outpatient services, including occupational therapy. Social workers and physiotherapists are also members of the outpatient team.
