Pleаse chооse ONLY ONE оf the four essаy prompts below. Before you аnswer, please think through the different situations in the two stories and the film that relate to the specific prompts. In responding in essay form to the prompt that you choose, please be sure to discuss at substantial length Edwidge Danticat's novel, The Farming of Bones (1998). Depending on which prompt you choose, you may, in addition, discuss director and screenwriter Hirokazu Koreeda's film Shoplifters (2018) and/or one or more other cinematic or literary works that we have studied this semester. Your essay needs to provide clear and detailed explanations. You may draw on class discussion in responding to one of the prompts, but mainly your essay needs to express your own ideas. This essay should be clear and well written, and it should consist of a relatively brief but clear introduction and relatively brief but clear conclusion. The introduction should have a thesis statement (which may be your specific response to the prompt), and the conclusion should recap the essay's main points and reinforce the thesis statement. The body of the essay (that is, the part of the essay that does not include the introduction and conclusion) should be approximately three or four paragraphs and should provide evidence that supports your thesis.
