She was discharged to her home on the First Nations reserve three days post-surgery. At four days post-surgery, Betty is experiencing mobility issues and pain related to the osteoarthritis in her right (other) hip. You have been practicing as an occupational therapist in this northern region for two years. You receive a referral to assess Betty at her home. The client record indicates: · Betty was transferred home one week ago and is walking slowly around the house with a two-wheeled walker. · While in the hospital, the health care team discovered that Betty has type 2 diabetes. A nurse will be visiting Betty at home once a week to monitor her blood glucose levels. Betty’s diabetes is currently being managed with oral medication. · Betty is maintaining hip precautions and weight-bearing status on her leg. · Betty knows how to use a cane to get up and down stairs. · Betty needs help with sponge bathing; she is not allowed to shower until the staples are removed.
