(30%) Question 2: Compare and contrast the clinical significance of antibodies in the ABO blood group system to those of the other clinically significant blood group systems (Rh, Duffy, Kidd etc). Include in your answer reference to both Haemolytic Transfusion Reactions (HTR) and Haemolytic Disease of the Fetus and Newborn (HDFN)   (100%) Question 3: Compare and contrast the pathophysiology of Hereditary Spherocytosis and G6PD Deficiency (include in your answer examples of typical laboratory findings for patients with these conditions) (100%) Question 4 (Answer all parts of this question): Savannah, a 16-year-old girl of African descent, presented to the emergency department with severe abdominal pain, fever, and nausea. She had a history of recurrent febrile episodes during childhood that were often associated with pain in her limbs. Seven days ago, she received a transfusion of two units of red blood cells when her haemoglobin level was recorded at 70 g/L. Her mother reported that Savannah had recently spent some time in a mountainous region. The family history revealed that her mother experienced anaemia during her youth. On physical examination, the patient appeared markedly pale, with mild jaundice of the skin and conjunctivae being observed. a) Based on the clinical presentation (above) and laboratory findings (below), develop a differential diagnosis and explain how alternative diagnoses can be excluded. (40%) b) Discuss the most likely underlying pathological mechanisms responsible for the abnormal red blood cell morphology. (60%) Laboratory Findings: Question 5: Compare and contrast the common techniques used in the diagnosis and monitoring of haematological malignancies. Give examples of specific applications for each technique within your answer (100%).
