On or about February 9, 2025, Plaintiff was operating a 2000 Toyota Camry and traveling north on U.S. Highway 165 in Morehouse Parish. 3.                On or about February 9, 2025, Defendant was operating a 2004 Lincoln Town Car and also traveling north on U.S. Highway 165 in Morehouse Parish, directly behind Plaintiff.  4.                As Plaintiff was proceeding north on Highway 165, Defendant, exceeding the posted speed limit, violently ran into the back of Plaintiff’s vehicle. 5.                Plaintiff contends the sole cause of the accident was the negligence of Defendant, for the following reasons:                               a.            Following too closely;                               b.            Traveling at an excessive rate of speed; and                               c.            Failing to keep a proper lookout. 6.                As a result of the automobile accident, Plaintiff sustained the following damages:                               a.            Physical injuries;                               b.            Mental anguish and distress;                               c.            Medical expenses; and                               d.            Property damage.                WHEREFORE, PETITIONER PRAYS for Judgment in his favor and against Defendant for all damages deemed reasonable by the Court. On Mаrch 4, 2025, yоu (а Lоuisiаna resident) are invоlved in a serious elevator accident at Dillard’s in the Pecanland Mall in Monroe, Louisiana. The elevator malfunctioned and the doors closed on you, causing you to fall. The incident is not your fault but was caused by a defect in the elevator equipment. The manufacturer of the elevator is Elevator, Inc., which is an Alabama corporation.  Dillard’s is an Illinois corporation.  The Pecanland Mall is also an Illinois corporation. Assume your damages total at least $85,000. Does federal court have jurisdiction over your suit? Explain why federal court does or does not have jurisdiction.
