The local antibiogram shows 60% susceptibility to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and 97% susceptibility to nitrofurantoin. What is the most appropriate empiric therapy?   Prescribe nitrofurantoin based on higher local susceptibility rates.   Select the antibiotic with the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration.   Evaluate culture and sensitivity results prior to therapy.   Prescribe trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole because it has broader systemic coverage.
