So, from that described context, now apply something you have learned in this class. We used the term hegemony throughout the semester, meaning 'negotiating a preferred position.' Here's our first scenario: some students' preferred position may be "don't challenge me to think more deeply, don't ask much work from me" while my position is "my job is to push you to see your potential, trying to serve as a caring mentor, trying to guide you toward making yourself competitive from your skills and knowledge for when you're getting into a career. Second scenario: "Spiral of Silence" means a person who sees themselves as being in the minority against a majority opinion and may choose to stay silent instead of speaking up.
