The purpоse оf the "cаrrying оr being cаrried аrgument" is to show that some things have their _______________ by themselves (regardless of the actions of others), and other things aquire properties by the actions of an external agent (person).   In this case, something becomes a thing with the property of "being carried" because of the choice of a person who picks up the object and carries it.   This is in contrast to the mass or weight of the object.  This latter property is independent of the actions of external agents.
