Medical history indicates no unusual findings. She is taking Ortho-novum for birth control and ibuprofen or acetaminophen (“whatever’s handy”) as needed for headaches. VS are BP 106/70, P 64, R 14. Intraoral exam reveals generalized severe edema and erythema of marginal gingival tissues, generalized bleeding on probing, pocket depths of 1-4 mm with no recession and generalized decalcification. Dental and radiographic exams indicate no previous restorations but carious lesions on three maxillary molars in the cervical 1/3, proximal decay on three posterior teeth, and decay on four occlusal surfaces. There is no bone loss evident. The patient admits she has not been to a dentist in several years and is embarrassed about that. She reports she brushes once daily with “whitening toothpaste”. Small subgingival spicules of calculus are scattered minimally throughout the lower arch with slight amounts of supragingival calculus present on the lower anterior lingual surfaces. fe maslow 2.png QUESTION: Delia wants to get the dental work done, but expresses concern that she might be losing her job because she complained to the management about having to work in the smoking section of the casino. At what level of Maslow's hierarchy is she?

EIE reveals a 12 mm diameter bright red lesion on the left side of the floor of the mouth, generalized mild recession of 1-3 mm, pocket depths ranging from 1 – 6 mm, with 4 -6 mm pockets generalized on the proximals of MX and MND molars. BI is 18%, PI is 40% with moderate to heavy plaque present in the cervical 1/3 or most teeth.
