Cаse # DK -Deliа Kаrdz is a 24 year оld female new tо the practice and is seeing yоu first for a “cleaning”. She is attending college full-time and working part-time at the casino. Medical history indicates no unusual findings. She is taking Ortho-novum for birth control and ibuprofen or acetaminophen (“whatever’s handy”) as needed for headaches. VS are BP 106/70, P 64, R 14. Intraoral exam reveals generalized severe edema and erythema of marginal gingival tissues, generalized bleeding on probing, pocket depths of 1-4 mm with no recession and generalized decalcification. Dental and radiographic exams indicate no previous restorations but carious lesions on three maxillary molars in the cervical 1/3, proximal decay on three posterior teeth, and decay on four occlusal surfaces. There is no bone loss evident. The patient admits she has not been to a dentist in several years and is embarrassed about that. She reports she brushes once daily with “whitening toothpaste”.
