Questions

An 18-yeаr-оld Jehоvаh's Witness, Bоb, presents in the Emergency Depаrtment with bleeding after a car accident. When Bob arrives at the hospital, he is alert and oriented. He tells the medical resident that he is a Jehovah's Witness and that he does not want a blood transfusion, even if it means he will die. Several minutes later, Bob lost consciousness due to loss of blood. Bob does not have anyone present who can make decisions on his behalf. It becomes imperative that Bob receive a blood transfusion to survive.  Based on what we learned in class, what is the ethically acceptable way to handle this situation?
