Yоu must аnswer аll оf the questiоns from Essаy Question Number One or all of the questions from Essay Question Number Two. Do not do both essays. If you do I will only grade the first essay. Each question is worth 50 points total. Indicate which question you are choosing by writing (or typing) “Essay Question Number One” or “Essay Question Number Two” at the beginning of your response. Be sure to bring out as much detail and accuracy in your writing as you can in order to assure maximum credit for your response.  Essay Question Number One: Write an essay on Karl Marx by reviewing the main themes of dialectical materialism and his views on religion. Consider some of the following points when presenting your analysis. What are the five epochs of history? What epitomizes each epoch? What are the factors of production and the relations of production and how do they relate to what Marx referred to as the superstructure? What is the superstructure? Then discuss what Marx meant by the labor theory of value and the alienation of labor (four types). Conclude this section on Marx by analyzing the relationship between capitalism being viewed as unjust and justice being a juridical concept. Then turn your attention to feminism and answer the following questions: Why is feminism considered more of a movement rather than a doctrine? How does Simone de Beauvoir understand femininity and the distinction between sex and gender? How does she compare women to other oppressed groups of human history? What are reasons she provides to explain female oppression? What are your own view regarding the significance of the feminist movement?  Essay Question Number 2 Describe Kierkegaard’s understanding of the relationship between truth and subjectivity. Be sure to bring out the distinction between the different types of knowledge (essential and accidental) and the different types of reflection (subjective and objective) Kierkegaard makes. Also, consider how Kierkegaard explains the finite infinite gap and how it can best be overcome. What does overcoming this gap have to do with the truth and subjectivity and what epistemic problems arise from this analysis? How does Kierkegaard solve these epistemic problems? Do you think that is a satisfactory solution? Then turn your attention to the main themes of Sartre’s atheistic existentialism. How does Sartre argue from atheism to the absurdity of existence and existence precedes essence? How does Sartre define and distinguish the in itself from the for itself? What does Sartre mean by the circuit of selfness? Provide your own examples of the circuit of selfness. What does Sartre mean by bad faith? Provide your own examples of what Sartre would refer to as patterns of bad faith. What is authenticity and how is that different from the champion of sincerity?
