Now he is in the ICU with a temperature of 103°F, blood pressure of 80/50 mm Hg, heart rate of 120 beats/min, and SpO2 of 88% on 100% oxygen. His pulmonary capillary wedge pressure is 14 mm Hg, and cardiac output is 8 L/min. Breath sounds reveal coarse crackles throughout the lungs, and his bronchoalveolar lavage fluid contains a very high protein level. The patient is intubated and currently is being ventilated with a tidal volume of 800 ml, frequency of 14, and PEEP of 0.
