Wоrthingtоn Cylinders mаnufаctures prоpаne tanks for the gas grill industry. Walking through the plant, we made the following observations. They have 10 days of raw material, Mittal Steel delivers twice a month. The first operation, stamping, has one person and only takes 10 seconds to make a part. However, each time they run it, it takes one hour to set up. Prior to welding the part’s together, 4,000 parts of inventory are waiting to be welded. Welding only takes 30 seconds for one guy to complete. After the welding operation 1,000 parts are waiting to be painted. Painting requires a complete paint booth to keep all the fumes from filling the entire plant. A cylinder comes out of the paint booth every 20 seconds. Four guys currently work in painting. After painting, 600 cylinders are waiting to be boxed for shipment. The Boxing Department consists of one person who box six cylinders together every 60 seconds. The finish products end up on the shipping dock where we counted 1,000 cylinders. For the painting step, the processing time is?
