Questions

Shаwn's fоurth interventiоn is described belоw. At its core, whаt does this intervention pаckage consist of?  Intraverbal Categorization (Labeling Items by Class) To teach Shawn that items belong to specific categories (e.g., a spatula is a "kitchen tool"), the therapist conducts five 5-min DTT sessions during each of Shawn's days at the clinic. These sessions take place at a table in a therapy room. The therapist uses conditional discrimination training with an array of 5 cards of various items and the verbal instruction "Touch the (name of category)". Correct independent responses result in a preferred edible item plus praise. Prompted correct responses result in praise alone. If Shawn makes an error, the therapist says "No", points to the correct picture, and then runs 3 consecutive sequences of that same target with immediate prompts before moving on to the next trial (e.g., "No, touch the kitchen tool here. Touch the kitchen tool here. Touch the kitchen tool here." while touching the spatula each time). In the first few sessions, the therapist immediately touches the correct card after delivering the verbal instruction. After those first few sessions, the therapist immediately provides a more subtle gesture to the correct response after the instruction. Finally, from session 7 onward, the therapist allows Shawn to perform the skill independently without delivering an immediate prompt.
