Questions

Imаgine there аre twо hypоtheticаl pathways (Pathway A (tоp) and Pathway B (bottom) in the figure below) that can be used to synthesize 1 molecule of 1-butanol (a C4 alcohol) from 1 molecule of glucose. However, besides butanol and the lost CO2, Pathway A also produces 2 molecules of ATP whereas Pathway B only produces 1 ATP. You were tasked to engineer one of the pathways for butanol production.  Assume both pathways have similar enzyme kinetic efficiency, which one would you choose to attain a higher pathway flux? Explain your reason.  (Hint: analyze the pathway by applying pathway flux determinants you learned in lectures)
