Essаy 1 Assignment: Yоu will chооse one of your reаding аssignments from Part 6 of Practical Argument, and then construct an opinion essay in which you disagree with the writer's stance. You must use an written article from Part 6 of the textbook, it may not be a visual argument. You will only choose one essay, not an entire topic section. Any essay written about an article that does not meet these requirements will not be graded, and will receive a grade of a zero for the assignment. Any essay that does not disagree with the reading will receive a grade of a zero for the assignment. 1. You will use MLA format (heading, header, paper format, in-text citations, works cited page, etc.) 2. You will reference the reading from your text book, with correctly formatted in-text citations and a works cited page. You are required to have at least 3 direct quotes. All in-text citations must include a page or paragraph number. See #28 in A Writer’s Reference (in section MLA-4b) for a model Works Cited entry of a selection from an anthology or collection. 3. You will present your opinion on the topic and then explain why you disagree with the author. 4. You will not use any other resources besides the reading from the text. No articles or other outside research. 5. You will write in proper essay format: An Introduction paragraph that ends with a key point thesis statement, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph. 6. You may not use 1st Person or 2nd Person Point of view in this essay. You must use correct Standard American English. 7. You must directly quote from your textbook article at least 5 times with in text citations and a works cited page. Failure to do any of these things will result in a zero for the essay grade. I do NOT want you to use any outside resources, besides the article in the text book. I just want you to be able to formulate and explain why you disagree with the article. This essay must be at least 750 words, not including the works cited page. Late papers will be assessed late penalties as described in your syllabus and in this assignment.
