A student who is observing the voles notes that they seem to spend more time in some areas than others, and they suspect this is due to optimal foraging theory. To determine whether optimal foraging could explain the time spent in different areas, the student obtains permission from UAF's IACUC committee (the committee that oversees approvals to work with vertebrates) to carry out an experiment.
