Cоmplete the Literаry Element Chаrt. Yоu mаy recreate a chart fоr your work, OR you may simply list out each literary element (characters, point of view, setting, plot, themes, style, tone, whether you liked it or not, and a genre specific critique) and then craft your answer beside it. Each answer should be at least 2-3 sentences. Below the chart is a reminder of what constitutes each category. Will children like it? ´ Is it fresh/interesting? ´ Is there action? ´ Is there a logical sequence of events? Themes:Central ideas and/or underlying messages ´ Do they emerge naturally? ´ Do they overpower the story? ´ Does the text avoid over-moralizing?   Style: The author’s creative technique ´ Does the writing match the subject? ´ Is it straightforward or figurative? ´ Is the dialogue natural/suits the characters? ´ What’s the overall mood/impression? Tone:Author’s attitude ´ Shown through the writing: word choices ´ Influences meaning ´ Avoid ´ Didactic (preachy) ´ Sentimental (artificial) ´ Sensational (thrill seeking) ´ Condescending (talking down) Critical Literacy lens: Read the text in an active, reflective manner in order to better understand power, inequality, and injustice in human relationships. Challenge the text to see if and/or how it provides selective versions of the world, with an eye towards transforming economic and cultural conditions. Evaluate the contribution of social, political, historical and/or cultural contexts of the text.
