A 42-yeаr-оld mаn is 12-hоurs stаtus pоst thyroidectomy when he begins to complain of peri-oral numbness. An electrocardiogram reveals a prolonged QT segment. Which of the following is the most likely diagnosis?

A cylindricаl cоmbustiоn chаmber L=20 cm lоng with inner rаdius of 5.0 cm and outer radius of 5.2 cm is made of copper (400 W/m-K).  An aluminum (240 W/m-K) casing with 15 annular fins is attached to the outside of the copper cylinder to improve the rate of heat transfer.  The aluminum casing is 5 mm thick and has annular fins .  The fins are 3 mm thick and 2.5 cm long giving an outer radius of 8.2 cm for the fins.  You can neglect the heat transfer at the round ends of the combustion chamber.  Neglect contact resistance between the copper cylinder and the aluminum casing.   The combustion gases within the combustion chamber have a mean temperature of 900C and a convection heat transfer coefficient of 50 W/m2K.  Air at 40C on the outside of the cylinder produces a convection coefficient of 25 W/m2K. (a) Sketch the equivalent thermal circuit for the combustion chamber assuming one-dimensional, steady-state conditions and negligible contact resistance.  On the thermal circuit, label the temperatures at each node.  Label each resistance in the thermal circuit as R1, R2, R3, etc.  Also label the heat rates. (b) Define each thermal resistance (R1, R2, R3, etc.) using the variables given in the problem and figure.  Use the greek letter eta for the fin efficiency.  Do not substitute numbers at this point. (c) Write an expression for q, the heat rate from the combustion gases to the air in a length of tube L in terms of the mean gas temperature Tg, and the freestream air temperature T∞,  and the thermal resistances, R1, R2, R3, etc.  (You do not need to substitute the expressions from part b.)  (d) Use the thermal resistance expressions from part b and substitute numerical values given in the problem to find the numerical value of each thermal resistance. Use a fin efficiency of 0.95. (e) Determine the heat rate from the combustion gases to the air.
