Questions

A 65-yeаr-оld mаle diаgnоsed with idiоpathic pulmonary fibrosis a year ago not on supplemental oxygen therapy presents to the ED with a week and a half of worsening exercise tolerance, increased dry cough, myalgias, and subjective fevers. Over the last day he has been unable to walk across the room without resting. Physical examination is remarkable for SpO2 of 85% on 6 L NC with tachypnea and increased work of breathing, bibasilar crackles. Laboratory test results reveal WBC 10,000/ μL (slightly increased absolute neutrophil count), normal metabolic panel and liver function tests, troponin of 0.1 ng/mL, and BNP of 120 pg/mL. Rapid flu is negative, and PCR panel is pending. CXR shows worsening bilateral opacities, and results of CT scan are shown in the figure that follows. CT1.jpgThe patient is admitted to the ICU and placed on high flow nasal cannula at 40 LPM flow. Overnight FiO2 has ranged between 0.7 and 0.9 to maintain SpO2 in the low 90s, and he was unable to sleep because of dyspnea. On examination he appears to be tiring. Which of the following statements is true?

The fаculty оf the Electricаl Engineering Depаrtment is cоmmitted tо maintaining a learning environment which promotes academic integrity and the professional obligations recognized in the IEEE Code of Ethics: https://www.ieee.org/about/corporate/governance/p7-8.htmlLinks to an external site.  Accordingly, the department adheres to a common Academic Integrity Policy (AIP) in all of its courses. This policy is to be applied uniformly in a fair and unbiased manner. University rules regarding academic integrity will be strictly enforced. It is not acceptable to copy, plagiarize or otherwise make use of the work of others in completing homework, project, laboratory report, exam or other course assignments. Likewise, it is not acceptable to knowingly facilitate the copying or plagiarizing of one’s own work by others in completing homework, project, laboratory report, exam or other course assignments. It is only acceptable to give or receive assistance from others when expressly permitted by the instructor. Unless specified otherwise, as in the case of all take- home exams, scholarly exchange regarding out-of-class assignments is encouraged. A more complete explanation of behaviors that violate academic integrity is provided at: https://usf.app.box.com/v/usfregulation3027Links to an external site. The minimum penalty for violation of the AIP stated in the preceding paragraph is a letter grade reduction in the overall course grade. Student(s) found in violation of the policy on an exam will receive an “F” or “FF” in the course. All instances of AIP violations will be recorded in a letter from the instructor that is kept in the student files held by the department; a copy of the letter will be forwarded to the Undergraduate Dean's office. A second violation of the policy (see note below), irrespective of whether it was related to an exam or any other course assignment, will result in a course grade of “FF” and expulsion from the Electrical Engineering Department. NOTE: applies to all courses/semesters ! At the instructor’s discretion, the penalties associated with the EE Department’s AIP may be stricter. By selecting "True", you acknowledge that you have read and understood the above policy and that the policy stated herein takes precedence over any related statements contained in the syllabi for Electrical Engineering Department courses.
