The pаtient is а 15 YO mаle whо is admitted fоr debridement оf the right fibula bone due to a staphylococcal osteomyelitis infection that is localized to the right fibula. The patient began complaining of pain when walking two weeks ago but denies any trauma to the leg. However, the patient is a very active young man who plays baseball and soccer, so trauma could not be ruled out. Extensive outpatient diagnostic tests were performed which identified the staphylococcal infection, and the patient was admitted to surgery to prevent bone destruction and to prevent spreading of the infection to other bones and joints in his lower leg. The procedure performed was an open excisional debridement of the proximal fibula. The patient withstood the procedure well and was discharged the day after surgery for at-home recovery.
