Yоu аre studying а prоtein yоu cаll novel protein 1 or NP1 in rat neurons. You believe mutations in NP1 may predispose people to Alzheimers Disease, and that NP1 may be neuroprotective. You have a rat model for Alzheimers Disease (AD rats--this means these rats have Alzheimers), and can culture neurons from AD rats and see markers of Alzheimers Disease (this means you have an AD neuron culture system). To test your neuroprotective hypothesis, you want to express wildtype NP1 in AD rat neurons.  a. Starting with the NP1 protein sequence, name the procedure you will use to isolate the DNA sequence encoding NP1. b. What will you do with this DNA fragment to express wildtype NP1 in your cultured AD rat neurons (briefly explain how you can express the DNA you isoate in part a in neurons--what do you need to make it work)? c. You raise an antibody against NP1. You want to use this antibody to: 1) identify NP1 protein on a gel, and 2) visualize NP1 protein within AD rat neurons. Is it possible to perform both of these techniques with this single NP1 antibody? Provide a brief explanation of why (or why not) and how.
