A well-turned оut cаptаin meets her shаbbily dressed first оfficer (F/O). Withоut finding out the rationale for the shabby appearance, she assumes that he may be inattentive to detail, unfocused and lazy. During the flight, the captain feels uneasy to ask for or listen to suggestions from the F/O. She neither delegates responsibilities nor trust him to manage the flight-deck while she takes a needed bathroom break. They encounter an in-flight emergency that requires coordination and teamwork. The first officer takes the initiative and recommend the starting of the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) before they use the Quick Reference Hand-Book (QRH). The captain reluctantly gives the approval and the APU is started. Instantaneously, both engine- coupled -generators fail on the side of the "good" engine. Had it not been the quick thinking of the F/O, they would have had a total electrical failure. They declare an emergency and run through the QRH and approach brief. The F/O demonstrates exceptional knowledge about procedures and competence. They are able to make a quick air -return and land safely. What type of heuristic/bias did the captain exhibit?
