Christоpher Ryаn is а full-time plumber whо wоrks for Heydon Plumbers, Inc. for аpproximately forty hours per week, performing various repairs for both commercial and residential customers in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. He is 54 years old and has been a plumber for over 20 years. He sometimes freelances as a plumber on his own time for general and subcontractors in the area. On April 23, 2024, he began working on a job assigned for him by his supervisor from Heydon Plumbers, Inc. at a commercial site in Inglewood, California. On April 26, 2024, while working installing piping throughout the building, and performing his regular duties, a large metal wrench he was using slipped out of his hand and fell onto his foot, crushing his big toe and bruising his ankle. He immediately felt excruciating pain in his foot, ankle, and toes. He was not sure if any bones were broken. A co worker witnessed what had happened and called 911 due to the severity of the injury. Christopher was taken by ambulance by paramedics to a local hospital to be evaluated. He had x-rays performed showing a broken toe and foot. He was hospitalized overnight and surgery on his foot was performed. He was discharged home the next day after the injury. As a result of the injury, he lost a few months of work and received ongoing medical treatment. He also lost some of his foot mobility after several months of post-operative care and physical therapy. He began consuming pain medication on a regular basis due his complaints of continuing throbbing pain and discomfort in his toes and foot. He advised his supervisor at Heydon Plumbers, Inc. of the incident of April 26, 2004 on May 04, 2024. He was provided a claim form on May 05, 2024 and directed by his supervisor to fill it out and return it to the human resources department at Heydon Plumbers, Inc. He was also instructed to go to the industrial clinic used by Heydon Plumbers, Inc. for further medical care and evaluation after he was home from the hospital. He had residual symptoms of pain, numbness, bruising, loss of range of motion with his foot and toes for many months.
